Latest News From Smelly Bang Phlad (er, that's a district, not Sue).

Sue has sent us some more photos from her neck of the woods.

These photos show our latest shopping trip of two days ago.
As you can see the water is filthy, and we have just found out that Bang Phlad (our area), is one of four districts in Bangkok with extremely polluted water. Full of chemicals, waste products and oil. So we are trying to aviod going near it as much as possible!!!  Nevertheless, we are determined to enjoy ourselves, despite all the gloomy news.

So having once again clambered aboard the now familiar polystyrene raft, if was off to the bridge to catch one of the trucks used for transporting people across to the other side, and dry ground.
This time we had Alan with us who bravely climbed on board to experience a different mode of travel. Not many people can say they went shopping on the back of a very rusty articulated lorry!!!!!  Ed's note: Not many people can say they do their weekly shopping with a couple of suitcases either!
As you can see the water is still quite deep here, but apparently it is starting to go down, albiet very slowly!!!!
We are definitly in need of more pumps in this area. As a point of interest, the water has been with us two weeks today.
Yes, the water does stink and it looks like liquid black ink. I hope they do a decent job of cleaning up the mess; when they do I will be keeping my windows and doors closed!!
As for water and food we are fine. The tap water is still O.K. but we also have our own water filter fitted, so that's an extra safety net.  We've been picking up our shopping from Big C, which so far has always been well stocked. That might change however if Rama2 floods.

Ed's note:
Now we all know that there have been stories of snakes and crocodiles running (or should that be swimming) rampant because of the floods.  So of course we have all been concerned for Sue's safety.   Well, she has at last met up with some fearsome creatures in her apartment.  No, not snakes nor indeed crocodiles.  No out intrepid reporter has met up with a butterfly, a moth and a few termites!
Although we are unable to get out much, the wildlife is certainly coming to us!!! Still to be identified is the very large swallow tailed butterfly which flew around our rear balcony, before landing on our air-conditioning unit. It was really amazing. Unfortunately, when a rather large moth turned up, I was very happy to see it go!!!
However, it was yesterdays wildlife which caused mayhem, and it was certainly not welcome!!! To my horror I found an infestation of termites in my wardrobe!!!! That has got to be worse than getting ants in your pants!!! The whole day was taken up with clearing it out, before embarking on a major chemical attack!!!! I think I've won!!!
Our brave correspondent, out looking for bug spray no doubt!
