Chinatown Fashion Victim

Some people will wear anything to draw attention to themselves!
Okay I admit it, we both bought one as there was a terrific downpour but I did NOT wear that silly hood.  Still, they were a bargain at THB20 and probably had the added bonus of sweating a few pounds off us in the Bangkok heat!

Storm Damage

As well as brining down trees in the road, the storm earlier this week also blew a tree onto our condo's spirit house.  They cut down the remaining trees around the shrine today and will plant some low level bushes instead.
Of course the staff here are worried as to them, this means bad luck.  The condo manager told me a horrible story.  An hour after the shrine was damaged, one of the staff got a call to tell him that his son had died.   Coincidence?
Some time soon we will get a new shrine.  Sadly I will probably be away when it is installed, I am sure it will be fascinating to watch.

Bangkok Monsoon

Emporium now has a lovely new upper entrance, but they have yet to finish the covered path to the BTS.  With the heavy rain yesterday, the poor guards were kept busy ferrying shoppers under large umbrellas to the train.

New Year's in Utah

We decided to not spend New Year's Eve at the cabin, "due to my not wanting to deal with the cold", but to visit on New Year's day.  This also allowed us to get out of the inversion in the valley and see some blue sky and breath some clean crisp air.

UK Storm

My uncle's neighbours had a lucky escape during the storm that hit the UK yesterday, when a tree outside their house fell down.
 Why are they smiling?

Kim's Got Me Beat, But.....

OK, I must admit that I haven't seen any outdoor Christmas displays going up around town, but by the looks of Target (above), Home Depot and JoAnn's, (below) Christmas is right around the corner - like next week!

Spring Thaw?

Well January is finally over with!!!!!  The storms have gone and the snow is melting.  Here is Roger standing next the mound of snow that he created via snowblower and snow shovel.  It's good to see blue sky again.  To celebrate, we decided to head up to the cabin, spend the night and take a tour of the association on our snowmobile.

Enough of Winter!!!!!

This January has given us more cold, more snow, more ice, more fog, more smog than I want in a life time.  Above is a frozen brush from the local car wash.  That should have given me a huge hint of what was to come.  While in the West we are always evaluating snow and moisture levels to make sure we will have enough the next summer's needs, enough is enough.

What Next???

Now I don't like to sound like I'm getting worried here, but just about every year we have been in Bangkok, something has happened.  We've had an airport takeover, civil unrest, floods and now...

we have the haze.  This is the scene from one of the balconies this morning.

It is Cold in Utah!!

I thought I would take a quick break from the wonderful holiday we had in Chiang Mai and bring us (well, as least me) back to reality. It's cold in Utah!

Record Winds

We occasionally get high winds coming through the canyons above Bountiful, Centerville and Farmington, but the ones we got this morning were record setting. They started around 2:00 am and by 6:30 am the power was off and the winds were up to 100 miles an hour. Pretty eerie not being about to find quiet place anywhere in the house, and fearful the roof might be damaged, if not blown off. I have a new appreciation for those who go through tornadoes and hurricanes on a regular basis.
