More from our non-roving correspondent over in Pinklao.
Life on the river is quiet at the moment, without the barges and Express Boats making their usual way up and down the river. However, their is always an upside for someone. This time it is the fishermen, who are able to go about their business unhindered. We have watched from our balcony as they haul in one huge fish after another!!!! They must be so happy.
As a point of interest I have sent a few more photos of the floods. These were taken yesterday, on the 12th November,(we had to go to the mobile immigration office in Khoasan road), and as you can see the water is still about a metre deep, this is after being inundated for 17 days. Today is no better!!!
Apparently, the floods are not going to go any time soon in this area. We are in the direct path of a mass of flood water, which has no where else to go!!!
The stench from the water is appalling, the thought of being anywhere near it gives you the creeps!!!
We are hoping we don't have to venture out for a little while!!! As you can see, even the locals are doing their best to avoid wading through the water!!!!
Thanks Sue for that update. I would invite you over, but I really don't want you smelling up my apartment!
So, whilst Sue was spraying the old air freshener around her apartment, we went off to the newly opened IKEA with the lads.
Alan got bored with the whole thing pretty soon. He managed to find himself a nice spot. By the way, nobody thought Alan was worth the THB4,490 we were asking for him, even when we threw in a free sofa!
Craig managed to find himself a new toothbrush!
We expected it to be busy, but clearly the Thai's had one thing on their minds when they got to IKEA - SWEDISH MEATBALLS! This queue is for people waiting to get INTO the restaurant, let alone get their teeth into a meatball.
There must have been over a hundred people queuing. Needless to say we did not queue. We left IKEA with four toilet brushes between us! Oh well, at least you know which part of our homes are the cleanest.
Clearly traumatised from the whole IKEA experience, we had a late lunch that went on for nearly six hours. I'm sure joining this queue would have been quicker!
Talk about two worlds!! And all within, what
ReplyDelete5 miles? It is rather surreal in seeing the
juxtapostion of the two. Party on! Janice
