Spring Thaw?

Well January is finally over with!!!!!  The storms have gone and the snow is melting.  Here is Roger standing next the mound of snow that he created via snowblower and snow shovel.  It's good to see blue sky again.  To celebrate, we decided to head up to the cabin, spend the night and take a tour of the association on our snowmobile.

While we got up to the cabin too late for a snowmobile ride or photos Friday night, the next morning made it all worthwhile.  I took photos with both of my cameras, my Nikon 501 (above) and my smaller cool pix (below).  The sun was just coming up and the frost on tree branches was absolutely gorgeous in the light.   These photos were taken from our deck.

After it warmed up to a respectable 34 degrees, we took off on the snowmobile to check out the trails above the cabin.  I'm not sure what I was telling Roger (below), but I'm sure it was very important.

This was the end of the groomed trails and as far as we could go.  It was so much fun to get out after such a cold January.

On the way home we drove by a frozen Rockport Reservoir.  This is another winter sport I'm not sure I am interested in pursuing:  ice fishing.  From the looks of it, however, the fishing must be good as there were dozens of groups spread across the lake freezing their butts off in total enjoyment.

  1. Wow! I just clicked on the photos to see them full screen. The dark Nikon photo is just brilliant! I kept going back to look at it. The light is just glowing on the branches. Isn't that just a beautiful sight? I wish I had seen it.

Okay I admit it, I just don't get the ice fishing thing. I have seen it on tv and read about it in books, and still it doesn't make sense to me. Why sit on a sheet of ice, numbing your proverbials, just to catch a fish through a hole, when you could go to the fishmongers and buy one???

    And who eats fish anyway?!
