This past weekend, Roger and I decided to once again head up to the cabin. It's such a pleasure to have it so close and available to us.  Roger wanted to try and finish up some staining of the rails before it got too cold and I'm always up for a get-away that provides for some great walks.  Before we headed up, we stopped by our local Home Depot, Roger's equivalent of my JoAnn's, so we could say hi to Rob, Ana and Livi.  Rob periodically takes the girls to Home Depot's Saturday morning "Kid's Workshops".  This workshop involved building and painting a toy fire engine.  Both the girls love  these activities and Allison told us that Ana had laid out her apron the night before so they would be right on time.  I guess the store's philosophy is "if you start them young, they'll spend money when they're older".  No matter what, it provides a great hands-on learning experience.

I'm so happy that Mary, Kim and Alan were able to see the canyon around our cabin when the colors were still bright and vibrant.  What a change a week can make, both in foliage and in temperatures.  We woke up Sunday morning to 20 degree weather and me wishing I had brought gloves and a
hat along with my jacket.

Above is the remains of a hornets nest that had been growing over the last
month or two.  After a rain storm last week we had found some damage to it
and the hornets gone.  This week only half of it remained.  It is fascinating how it is built to provide safety in the nest.   The hornets had done a number on the screen to which the nest was attached and Roger had to bring it home to make repairs.  Hopefully, they won't return next year.

For the trip home we decided to take a short road trip to Evanston, Wyoming, by way of the Mirror Lake Highway.  It had been more than a decade since I had travelled this way and once again I marvelled at the beauty of the mountains in Utah.

This is Bald Mountain at the top of Bald Mountain Pass.  We are at about 10,500 feet at this point even the pines are beginning to thin out.

Coming down the other side we get our first glimpse of Mirror Lake.

Even with the temperatures remaining in the high 20's, there were people
on the lake fishing!  True die-hards.  I will admit that I ran to take the photo and quickly ran back to warm up in the car.
