We are two women (The Coven) who met in Bangkok. We share a love of adventure (in varying degrees), photography (very amateur but who cares?), creating (in different fields), oh yes, and eating (in abundance). Mostly, we just have fun! Now we have moved on to different places, but intend to keep our spirit alive.

A Quilt Show in the Dark:
As soon as I received information about the quilt show "Everything in Between: Art Quilts, Fabric Collage and Embroidery" being shown at Southern Utah University in Cedar City I tried to see how we could add this on to the family trip to Moab for "Pumpkin Chuckin". Add an extra day to the travel schedule and convince Roger he really wanted to see this with me. It worked!
There were a number of top names in the show: Caryl Bryer Fallert, Katie Pasquini Masopust, Jane Sasaman and Ricky Tims to name a few. Well worth the effort, I thought. We headed down Thursday morning and arrived just after noon. We thought we would quickly grab lunch and head over to the show. Just as we were finishing lunch the power went out. No big deal we thought as we watched three different waitresses trying to figure out how to write up the bill without the benefit of a computer. Luckily, we had cash and soon we were off to the campus.
We reached the campus and soon realized that the outage was wide spread. The quilt show was staged in the basement and we found six or eight (hard to tell in the dark) students waiting for the lights to come on. After I told them how far I had come, etc. etc. etc. (go to Mary noises) they tried to assist with a camera flashlight. No good. I then sent Roger off for a flashlight from the car.
When he returned the auxiliary generator was on and the lobby lit, but still no lights in the rooms of the show. They said we could go ahead and so my ever patient husband held up two head lamps as I directed him around the rooms.
By the time we were finished with the show there was only one young lady left. Classes on campus had been cancelled as they had no idea when the power would return and she remained to see us out and lock the door behind us. I must admit I would have loved to see the show the right way and spend the time to to truly enjoy it all, but all in all we had fun and truly appreciated the students having pity on the lady who had driven all the way from Salt Lake City for the show.
That same afternoon we headed over towards Bryce Canyon and stayed at
Ruby's Inn just outside the National Park entrance. I think these photos are all familiar to everyone who has read Kim's recent blog entries. Beautiful
country to say the least.
We got there early for the sunrise at 7:40 a.m. and about froze in the 15 degree weather. Now that's one thing that Kim and Alan didn't have to contend with.
Below is Queen Victoria sitting atop her thrown.
And with that we are now off to Moab and another adventure with the family. Pumpkin Chuckin here we come.

Ha ha, I just got to the last picture and laughed, Roger looks really cold! We stayed at the same place you did (had I already told you we stayed there?). Did you try the restaurant?
ReplyDeleteWe walked to Queen Victoria rock. I have to say, someone had to really point it out for you to see it. Most people were looking at the wrong (but much larger) rock and saying 'I can't really see it myself' (us included), until someone redirected our gaze!
Okay moral of the quilt show lesson is get your priorities right. Take snacks and stuff them into your mouth en-route, thereby enabling you to get to the show EARLY!
By any chance do you know who did the quilts? The top quilt looks very much like Barbara Olson's work. Oh, I wish we had been there just a day later so that I could have seen the show. You are so lucky. (Mary noise!)
