Bangkok Farmers Market

Bangkok Farmers Market has been going for a while now.  It is based at K Village, behind Big C on Rama IV.

Organic seems to be the theme of the market, so as well as people selling fruit and vegetables, there were home made organic soaps, lotions and potions.  We also spotted a class on sprouting things and making organic pet food(!).  I think the woman on the phone is calling in her McDonald's order whilst she watches the demonstration.
Alan and I were happy to see all the bread sellers with their delicious bread.  Yes real bread that has some substance to it, not that waffy sweet stuff that Thailand tends to call bread.  Mind you, some of it was quite expensive.  We bought some delicious olive bread.

I ate the most scrumptious almond croissant (a favourite of mine), with an almond filling so lovely, I licked all my fingers after!

As you can see, there was also seating for those who wanted to eat at the market.

One thing I really enjoyed was that so many people had samples of their food for you to try.  Given some of the more exotic sounding foods on display, this was such a good idea.  The best thing I sampled, was a Korean cinnamon pancake, which was delicious.  I also sampled bread, cake, croissants and dips.  Delicious!

Interestingly, a lot of the vendors were ex-pats, including my glass teacher Louise Truslow.

The market was decorated for Halloween.  They had giant spider's webs and a witch on a pulley system that was dragged overhead, much to the amusement of the little kids who gleefully jumped up to try and touch it as it swung overhead.
On display also were a couple of Shetland ponies (I guess they could have been a different breed, but what do I know?) and about 5 teacup pigs, which I have never seen before and were for sale for THB12,000 I think.  Golly, was someone going to have one on their balcony?  They aren't going to get much of a roast out of one of those!

  1. Kim, Is this a newer market? I don't think that it was there a few years back. These are the posts I love - everyday life. I am SO excited to be heading back soon. More places to see! Janice
