RETIREMENT - Here We Come!!!

OK, Kim, OK!

Well the day finally came!  Roger went to work at 7:00 a.m. per normal, turned in his keys, computer, said good-bye to a few more people and walked happily away from work and towards retirement.  He stayed just long enough for Sportsman's Warehouse to open and stopped by on his way home to pick up some camping supplies.  Guess what we are going to be doing this summer?

That night we had the family over for
dessert and the official tie cutting ceremony.  No, he didn't stay in his suit all day, but quickly changed back
into one of his official retirement uniforms - see below.

When we moved back to Utah, after 10 years in various states around the country following his career, he eventually joined Morton (salt)-Thiokol (rocket boosters) as their Human Resources guy.  This was back in l987 when airbag technoloy was just coming into it's own and that part of the business had a total of 150 people, mostly engineers. When airbag technology really took off, the companies split and Roger stayed with airbags and the New Morton International which had grown to 400.  By the time Autoliv bought them out there were over 7,000 employees (mostly in Utah) and Roger had been a vital part of it's growth (at least in my humble opinion).  With 25 years under his belt and outliving (well kind of) six presidents he was happy to be on his way.

Welcome to his new office - the Tea garage.
As his new business card states he has a second office just east of Park City - the Tea cabin.
His first official project was getting the trailer ready to haul our canoe to Smith-Moorehouse reservoir for the family outing on the 5th of July.  That's our youngest, Jason, leaning againt my car.  We keep him around for moral support and sometimes comic relief.

His second project, was to start tearing down walls to put in a door leading out the back of the garage.  His last day of work was Friday and these pictures were taken on Saturday!

Really ladies, he is the handiest guy I know and I will happily hire him out for help around the house.  I already have an offer from France.  He comes cheap.  All checks for work done should be made payable to me.

  1. Roger,

It looks as though you are not letting the grass grow under your feet!

Apparently the secret to a happy retirement is to keep you wife happy, amused and out shopping, as that is the only way you are going to get inside the house during working hours! (Did I say it right Janice?).

I wish you a happy, healthy and fulfilling retirement. Now is the time you REALLY get to play, so have fun!
