New Year's Eve (Day)

December has been an exceptionally dry month - one small storm early on and so no snow for Christmas and now no snow going into the new year. With temps reaching the high 50's, however, I will not complain and when we woke up on December 31st to no smog in the valley I had to get up on the mountains to take a few pictures with my new camera. Thank you Santa!
Roger took me to his secret place where he has been collecting rocks for garden projects in the yard, so while he collected I shot some photos.
I hadn't really been noticing, but over the last few months he has achieved quite a collection. I hope he doesn't have to put any of the back!
At noon, everyone came over for the University of Utah bowl game against Georgia Tech. While the guys watched the game (commercial below) the women of the family took time out to catch up on US magazine. We won, by the way, 30 to 27 in overtime. We all were watching by then.
Just the day before I had spent time downstairs sorting through all the kids toys, putting pieces together and even filling a box to save the for the next grandchild (just wishful thinking there, I think). You would have thought the toys were brand new the way the kids were kept entertained throughout the game. Even the boxed toys came out. It was worth the time spent.
Ethan worked on his Temari ball and
I finished binding my bowtie quilt. This quilt was 15 years in the making and had traveled to Bangkok with me and back unfinished. It's hand pieced and hand quilted and thank goodness it is now finished.

By the time the game was over there was absolutely no interest to do anything other than watch more TV and go to bed early. Sunday morning arrived, so I assume the New Year Ball dropped at Time Square.
Here's looking forward to a wonderful and eventful 2012!

  1. Well done on completing the quilt. 15 years in the making is really something. I would have just given up (as you well know), as it would never of held my interest that long. It is beautiful, very mellow. Another quilt to snuggle under at the cabin?
