Let's Go to the Range:

Whatever your views are on guns and shooting, we Americans seem to take guns for granted and collect them from the time we are children (Roger) often obtaining our first 22 around the age of 12 as either a Christmas gift or hand-me-down from a Grandfather.  Roger has a nice collection of both rifles (he is a duck hunter) and pistols safely stored in the gun safe downstairs.  One thing we kept hearing from Kim was the both she and Alan wanted to try it, at least once, so on the last day of their holiday with us, off the to range we went.

Normally when our children want to go target shooting, they head up to the foothills above our house, set up targets and go to it.   We have seen a good number of fires locally this summer, however, many of which were started with people target shooting.  So not wanting to land anyone in jail, Roger took us to the local firing range in Bountiful.  Roger took them through the safety steps including: never, never point a gun at anyone, even when you know it's empty, unless your purpose is to do bodily harm.  He then taught them how to sight in on the target and how to load a rifle or gun.

They both handled the
rifles well, getting most of their shots well within the target range.

The pistols were a different matter,
as they are heavier than you would expect from looking at them and carry quite a punch.

While they had a good time, I think this is one of those things that you put in the checked off column and call it good.  I called it good a number of hears ago and was happy to sit safely on the sidelines and  take the photos.

  1. But why wouldn't they let me have any real bullets?!

Seriously, it was great fun with the rifles, and I would love to do it again, but those handguns scared me quite frankly. I thought I had shot the roof off when it fired!

Thanks Roger, you were a great and very patient teacher, and for allowing us a chance to experience something we would never have done otherwise.
