My Scabby Friend Feels Ticked Off!

Dog Ticks
Read on ONLY if you have a strong constitution...

Okay, did I really need this graphic description in an email from a friend, who shall remain anonymous (don't worry Chrissy, your secret is safe with me) BEFORE eating my breakfast?

...yesterday I felt a scab in my hair, while driving. "I won't pick at it now, I said to myself, but wait til I get home in case there is any blood. Because, what would I do with the scab, while in the car." Soooooo I get home, something reminds me of the "scab" so I proceed to pick at it, as one would do. WEEELLLL, it was not a scab but a TICK. Do you know ticks? I have never seen one or been that close to one in my life!!! Now I'm waiting for Lyme Disease or Rocky Mt. Spotted Fever to overtake me!!!!! Where did I get it? How long was in STUCK on my scalp? You better believe that I washed my hair and put antibiotic ointment on almost my entire head!!!!! Do you feel my pain??????!!!!!!!!!!

Now I don't know about you, but several things jump to mind here, so I have listed them...
  • Why were both her hands NOT on the wheel when she was driving?  That must be a motoring violation right there.
  • She picks her scabs in public!!!  Come on, a car is public, just look at all the male nose pickers you see.  Okay I admit I am not adverse to a little scab picking myself, but at least I haven't got my car swerving all over the road as I try to dig a bloody great tick out of my head!
  • When was the last time she washed her hair???  That thing was probably sucking on her noggin for weeks, nay months!  She thought she was losing her mind as she kept forgetting things, but that tick was sucking out her brains!!!
  • She put antibiotic ointment on her head.  What about the rest of her tick laden body???
Now I know that there is a some smartypants out there whining, "Oh but Kim, YOU had ticks too when you went away with Janice".  Well let me tell YOU that MINE were an entirely different class of tick, which only took a gentle nip (well several actually) and then departed.  They did not live on my body for goodness knows how many months, sucking me dry!
Why did nobody tell her?

I mean just look at the size of it (by the way, thanks Bill for the photo, I won't tell her where I got it).  Really, you'd have thought she would have noticed when she looked in the mirror, would you?

Also, though I did have several tick scabs across my feet and ankles, I kept my scab picking, to a surreptitious pick when I sat on the sofa watching tv.  At least that way at worst, only Alan saw me do it, and if I was really precise, I could flick the scabs across the room and out the window.

I ain't that precise!

  1. Hmmm. I seem to recall Kim having to go to the hospital with her ticks... Anyway, Chrissy was only showing nostalgia for Bangkok, although Thais normally get someone else to pick their ticks out of their hair. Alan

  2. Chris, love the photo! It's good that Kim is a dear friend, isn't it, otherwise she would have been merciless! Janice

  3. Thanks, Janice. I had NO idea it would go this far but I should have known. I expected a little sympathy or an Oh my gosh poor you. But oh no. It had to fill up a big part of Kim's day, getting that picture and adding that monster to my pate! One of these days she shall pay!!!! chris
