Let's Go Trekking

We had so much fun on our holiday to Chiang Rai, that we wanted the same type of experience on our days out of Chiang Mai. We called up Khun Chiaya, who contacted Khun Donut and we were off. After lunch, Donut dropped us off for the trek (hike) down to the White Karen village. It was supposed to take 1 1/2 hours by Khun Chiaya's estimation. Sadly he hadn't figured Kim and myself into the equation. We did, however, enjoy, almost, every minute of the 2 1/2 hour trek.

The trek took us down a winding trail through the forests of Doi (mountain) Inthanon National Park, past beautiful waterfalls, across dangerous looking bridges, and down a fear inducing ladder. When all was said and done this was truly the highlight of the day and trip up north. Kim, only with you could I have laughed the afternoon away, as we plotted revenge on Khun Chiaya.

Khun Chiaya eventually got what was coming to him at the hands of dear Kim. I had to document the event and couldn't help. He kept saying the trek was only going downhill and we finally realized the Khun Donut was going to meet us in the village with the van. You mean we could have DRIVEN to the village!!!!!

The amazing scenery was worth all the slides, slips, and near misses, however. We discovered some the most beautiful landscapes and photos could not do them justice.
As we entered the village, this little lady feeding her pigs greeted us.
The village is known for their coffee production and is not one of the typical "tourist" villages we have (and did the next day) visited in the past. They set the beans out to dry during the day, carefully covering them up at night.

After buying our coffee, we walked around the village a bit as the sun was beginning to go down.
I hope that Kim adds to this day with her photos. It was truly one of the best!
