April is always unpredictable in Utah. Last year it was hot, hot, hot by the end of April. This year we have had ups and downs - rain, snow, winds, you name it. We (Roger) have done some yardwork and gone on a few hikes, but basically it's been stay in the house or do family things.
This past Tuesday, we went to see Ethan's first Pinewood Derby. Ethan has just turned eight and so was able to join the local Boy Scout troop. Once a year each boy makes a racer from a set kit and races them down a sloping race track. Ethan's racer won every heat it was in and came in second place over all, just a fraction of a second behind first place. We had a fun time cheering his car on to the finish line.
On Friday it was an Earth Day program presented by the three second grade classes at Ana's elementary school. A 1/2 hour program filled with songs and choral readings proved just about right. Ana is on the second row, right in the middle. On Monday they will be visiting a few nursing homes around the area and doing it all again.
And on Saturday it was the Salt Lake Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K runs. Last year it was hot. This year it was raining and a cool 43 degrees. The weather didn't seem to deter the 4,000 racers who had entered the various events. Allison and Rob ran the half. We had the girls over for a sleep-over so their parents could get up early and be on their way. We joined them at mile 11 staying dry under the freeway overpass. I would say that I wished I could have been one of the racers today, experiencing the good shape and endurance one needs for racing, but...... No.
After a few hugs and a moment of being out of the rain, they were off again heading towards the finish line.
And we and the girls were off to 7-Eleven for a drink and treats.
I can't tell you enough how much that meant to me to see you guys at mile 11! Thank you!
ReplyDeleteWow, what a week for the Tea clan!
ReplyDeleteEthan looks as pleased as Punch, not to mention very smart. A big well done to him.
I am sure Ana was fantastic too, as she helped save the planet. Great tee-shirts by the way, did the mums tie-dye them (hey, it wouldn't have been the dads!)?
A huge well done to Alison & Rob. I would have run with them, but I just couldn't find my shoe laces!!
