Here are a few photos from Mahatun Plaza of places that are new to me, if not Bangkok.
Some months back, Royal Porcelain, at the top of the plaza, turned into a trendy looking cafe. I haven't eaten in there, but when I walk past it is often crowded with people eating sandwiches and Thai food. I think they still sell porcelain, but from a small area at the back of the cafe. This is high on my list of lunch time venues to try.
I have a feeling that Mexican restaurant La Monita has been around for some time, but having never ventured down the soi, I didn't know if its existence. Alan and I ate in here on Sunday. We both enjoyed our food. The prices appeared cheaper than Coyote, but then again, the servings were smaller. The service wasn't great, I had almost finished my meal before Alan's arrived, and only then after some prompting. The bench mark for me is Alan, would he go back (being the HUGE lover of Mexican food that he isn't!)? He would.
Next door is El Osito, which I think is relatively new. I just read on line that it is owned by La Monita, which accounts for the fact that they have similar service standards. Like La Monita, I had to request my burger after my fries had been sitting there for some time and Chrissy's salad was starting to grow warm!
The food was a mixture of burgers, salads and sandwiches. I didn't get quite what I had anticipated, but I enjoyed it none the less. Chrissy said her salad was good. The portions were big too, as you can see from the salad. I'd definitely go back, despite some of the lacklustre reviews online.

Thanks for taking photos of new and of changes.
ReplyDeleteI would stop in to check out the new porcelain
every time I took my photos to be developed (umm, I guess they don't do that anymore, do they?) at a small store at Mahatun. Times certainly change,as I don't recognize any of the Mexican restaurants you visited. Chris, you look fantastic!!! Janice
