Springtime?

The one thing I have been forced to remember as we return to the states is that April in Utah is very much a transition month.  I wanted it to be spring and in the 60's all month, but when it came it had very different ideas.   We have had record heat for this time of year (high 80's) and back to winter weather as the above picture shows.

Roger took last Friday off and we made plans to spend a couple of days up at our cabin in the Uinta Mountains.  It had cooled off considerably down in the valley, but we weren't prepared for the low snowline as we drove in.  The temperature by the next morning was in the low 20's and having only brought my sandals I opted out of any
walk I had wanted to do.    We lit a fire in the fireplace and did get a lot accomplished inside the cabin:  painting, cleaning out cupboards and closets as well as catching up on some reading.

This is a new nest this year right next to our downstairs door.  No eggs yet, but mom is getting it all ready.  We'll have to use the front door for the next month or so.
Last week I went with my sister Ruth Ann and Allison to a garden class.  They gave some very useful information, most of which I had remembered from past gardens of our own, though the past eight years mostly spent in an apartment in Bangkok, had left me a bit rusty.  First of all, the general rule of thumb is no vegetables planted until mid May to avoid any lingering frosts.  Of course, our small garden had already been proudly planted by Roger.  We will keep our fingers crossed for this year and rmember to plant a bit later in next year's garden.
I've had fun getting our yard in shape and adding a bit of color here and there.  Thank goodness pansies are very hardy plants.  It's the heat that will get them eventually.
We brought back a number of pots from Thailand.  It was fun to get them out and planted.  Although we can buy imports here, I have great memories of buying these at the factory in Ratchiburi.
