Above is the Tea Clan after a fun morning spent on the lake. Adults include Allison and Rob (Johnston), Jason, Nash Way and Evan, Grace and Daniel with grandkids Ana, Livi, Ingrid, Ethan and Racquel (who wanted none of this photo stuff that grandma insisted on). Since we have been back from Thailand we have tried to get everyone together at least once a year at the cabin. The grandkids look forward to this chance to take rides with grandpa on the four wheeler and expand their water skills on Smith and Moorehouse reservoir. Having everyone under one roof for a couple of days is all the reason I need to look forward to this yearly event.
This year Jason brought up a screen and projector and we all settled down on the deck for a viewing of Indiana Jones. After the show I quickly moved upstairs to my own bed and let Moms and Dads take care of whoever wanted to sleep on the deck. Coming down early the next morning to make breakfast for the group, I caught this photo before they started to get up.
We have found that the earlier you can get on the lake the better, as it starts to get a bit choppy by noon and thus more difficult for the grandkids to navigate the kayaks. We got there around 9:00 a.m. while the temperature was still around 50 degrees. No one seemed to mind, however, as they were all soon out on the lake and the sun quickly warmed us.
Last year the grandkids were allowed to venture out on their own in the kayaks we brought. They stayed close to shore under the watchful eye of their parents. This year all bets were off as they quickly took off on their own. What a difference a year makes!
Below, Nash and Evan were able to join us his year on the lake. They brought a few more inflatable kayaks, so along with our canoe no one had to wait for their turn.
Allison and Rob heading out.
With Grandma and Grandpa left on the shore, the group came together in the middle of the lake. Ana came back in very proud of herself, as she had practiced jumping into the lake (with 30 feet of water below her) and then pulling herself back onto the boat. Before long, most of the grandkids had done the same and were enjoying doing cannon balls off the side of the canoe, seeing who could get the aunts and uncles the wettest.
Too soon, it was time to go back to the cabin for lunch and more four wheeler rides. This year (with on adult sitting behind) each of the grandkids took their turn driving the four wheeler around the area. Ethan had brought his mountain bike as well and so he, Nash and Evan stole some time away for rides on the same trails. A lot of growing up was done on this trip and I wonder where the time has gone. I'm looking forward to next year when the grandkids will probably have decided they don't need anyone sitting on the back of the four wheeler. We'll see.
Until next year.
